Understanding school tests/scores Cancel Title is required

Hi all! I heard from my 10 year old and she said this: "My positions in class when we have written tests are 1, 3 and 2. What number were you passing at my age?" 

Can anyone help me understand what 1, 3 and 2 mean? And is she asking me about my grades or...?

In many African countries, the kids are ranked after every exam. She means that she is first, etc. in the class after that particular exam. However, it is difficult to know what the standard really is, especially in a weak government school. For instance, first in a class may not mean a great national score, especially when the majority of the kids do not receive even a 50% pass. However, she appears to be an interested student with potential.

I'm not sure if this is what she's referring to but I saw the grade reports of one of Josephine's siblings last year and they were based on a number system similar to the IB, if that's something you're familiar with. They could pass with a grade of 3, for example. I had a hard time finding a grading system online but it looked like grades 1-4 were passing and below that were failing. The lower the number, the higher the pass. Whether it's ranking or grades, she's clearly doing very well!
