Too Many Letters?

I was checking out my account and I noticed my next payment for Jonathan isn't due until January. So I figured in December I might send a SNG to help buy some school supplies for the upcoming school year (in February) and anything else the family may need. It's my understanding that the kids are required to write a letter in response to SNGs, correct? If so, I'm afraid he might have to write too many letters in a short span of time.

I'm not sure of the timing, but if the sponsorship began this past week, I'd guess he'll be writing his first letter shortly. That's letter #1. I wrote my first letter to him this week, so he may or may not write a response letter in a few weeks. That's letter #2 (possibly). If I send a SNG, his response will be letter #3. Three letters -- two required -- within a couple month period. I feel bad that may be asking too much of him, especially for a brand new sponsorship.

What is everyone's thoughts on this situation? Should I hold off on the SNG, or is the money more important than him writing several letters within a month or two?

Thanks!

Hi, Dave!

I understand your concern--we all eagerly await those precious letters from our children, but writing so many could be a daunting task. However, our children aren't left alone to write all those letters--a parent or older sibling and/or a volunteer at the center are there to help them. And I think that the family would be so grateful and feel so blessed to have a sponsor who writes and sends extra gifts (most sponsors do neither) that they won't much mind the e tra writing. :-)

Yes, your child will know that he is very lucky to have an involved sponsor who obviously cares about him very much. I would guess that he knows several sponsored kids who never hear from their sponsors, and he might have had that experience himself until very recently.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. He's so fortunate to have a sponsor who sends extra (and he'll know it as well as his family). The staff I think handles things well and know how to keep their letter writing balanced. (He may not even be ready to write at this point. My Honduran boy wasn't ready to start writing the letters himself until somewhere into his 8th year as he was still learning - so for the first while a family member wrote the letters instead.)

don't worry about it. the travel time for letters, SNG's, and required letters are far enough apart to spread out the letter writing. seems lately mail has been in slow motion anyway.

I think Jonathan will be very happy to receive several letters from you in a short time. The SNG will sure be great help to him and the family.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll send the SNG next month. The more I think about it, a few weeks in between each letter shouldn't be too much trouble for him (or whoever writes the letters), especially if one of the letters gets his family a SNG!
