I was just wondering should I be the first one to write to my child or should I wait for the welcome letter? And also would it be bad if I told my child that it is OK if she doesn't want to write me and that she doesn't have to, I mean i wouldn't mind receiving and answering letters every day but I don't want to be a burden and a responsibility to the kid.

You should be receiving the first letter from your child about 2-3 months after beginning the sponsorship, but if you would like to send them a letter before that, you are more than welcome to.  There isn't really a need to tell the child they don't have to write you - they know upon entering the program that we ask them to write two letters each year, and that they are welcome to write more, but it is no required.
