Interested in visiting San Pedro Sula Cancel Title is required

Hi all!
So visiting my sponsor child is definitely something I’d love to do in the future. I am wondering for those of you who have visited your child in Honduras, how much money should I budget for while I’m there? (Not including flight or hotel). And how many days did you go?

also, I’m a 24 year old female and nervous to go by myself. Do you think it’d be smarter for me to get someone to come with me?

Hmm, I'm surprised nobody's answered this. I guess not many sponsors visit Honduras? I've been talking with you about this on Facebook, so feel free to ask me any more questions. It's hard to say specifics about budget without knowing how many days you'll be staying, but food is inexpensive in Honduras - cheapest on the streets, but affordable (and familiar) at mall food courts. You should probably budget around $200 for your child visit day (including shopping).

I've never felt unsafe in San Pedro Sula, whether alone or with companions. You should be fine by yourself if you stay in tourist areas and don't go wandering around after dark. But travel is always more fun with a friend!  

I would love to visit my Mirna but my biggest concern is safety.I'm also in school

Thanks for the reply, Mack. Your reply made me feel safer about traveling to San Pedro Sula. I am hoping to visit there briefly on the way to Gracias, Lempira, with a group from another org. I have heard stories but then there were stories about Colombia, and I fell in love with Colombia. 

Glad that you resurrected this one, Shana!  I was also wondering about this since I have a child there now and would like to visit all of my kids at some point.

I would say just go. If you scour the internet looking for the horror stories, that's all your going to find. I am returning for a In/Out visit. In Sunday, Visit Monday and on the plane Tuesday. There are sections of the city you do not go to, like in any major city. But I never felt in danger and I hit the streets because I got stir crazy at the hotel. I'll be honest, the first time I went I got myself unjustifiably worked up over nothing. Like Nike, Just Do It!

I have a kid there also and would like to visit.  Since its a country that's relatively close to the U.S., I'm thinking that in another year or so, my little one will be able to handle the trip.  I just don't want to go if there's a lot of unrest since I'll have my children with me.

Just an update on my trip. I only spent one night in San Pedro Sula in a nice hotel that was right in the midst of downtown, where they were shooting fireworks for a celebration. It was very interesting and exciting to see but I will say that we stuck together as a group as we were walking to the hotel. I would not have felt safe if I had not been in the group in that area of the city.
