College and pregnancy in the Philippines

I have a question that has been bothering me for several months and would be grateful to hear from anyone who might know the answer. Is a girl enrolled in college in the Philippines automatically dismissed immediately if she becomes pregnant?  I am not referring to a faith based university. In the USA pregnancy wouldn't be a reason  for not allowing a student to continue her education whether she is married or not. To me it might be the most important reason for her to continue.

I actually have had a couple of the young ladies I support that have had children while in college. I have found that they choose to leave college usually around month 5-6...they have their child and want to go back to school because now more than ever they understand how important their education is going to be for them and now their child and I encourage them every step of the way to return.

This is very interesting because according to the report I got from Manila Lady Joy  was not allowed to complete her first semester which she  had already been in since June [ and  had been paid for] due to her pregnancy. In her last letter she wrote that she was only in the early stages of pregnancy but I have doubts about that.Thank you so much for the info. Would love to hear from anyone else about this!

Hey barbmc, after some investigating I found out that for public or state colleges/universities, this is a non-issue. Students, whether married or not who get pregnant at any point within an academic year is allowed to continue attending school. However, private institutions, especially faith-based/religious colleges and universities normally have a Code of Conduct with stricter policies when it comes to this issue. I sent you a private message regarding a little more information on Lady Joy's situation.

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to investigate.  I have read the  private post and I am so grateful to you and CIKC for the information provided and very appreciative of the honesty and integrity of CI. I wonder how many organizations would have even bothered once the sponsorship was dropped?
