My child's name is Genesys and she is 8 years old and as of now I don't know too much about her culture except for she likes to dance. If anyone has a child in Quito share some stories about your child!

I was surprised to get a letter from Genesys! She says that she is fine and her favorite subjects are Math and Language and she sends a big hug and a kiss!

Hello. I also have a six year old Shania who is in Ecuador. I have been sponsoring her since September. I sent her a Christmas box sometime in November and on Tuesday when I checked my mail I got my thank you letter with pictures. I now have her Easter box ready but im wondering if I should send it with the new change, im not sure.

I sponsor a 13 yr old boy from Quito. He is a special needs child, he has Down Syndrome. His mother and sister writes his letters. They seem like such a nice family!

Has anyone visited their children in Ecuador? I am in the early planning stages now and wanted to hear how it went for anyone that has done this. Especially if you went to visit both major cities. Thanks!

I'm in the early stages of sponsorship but am already beginning to think ahead about planning a visit to Ecuador. I'm wondering if transportation for wheelchair users exists in Quito or anywhere in the country?

I think websites devoted to travelling with disabilities would be more likely to connect with people who know the answer to this. There might also be issues with air carriers if you have to take regional airlines.

Turns out planning a visit to Quito isn't as difficult as I thought. After speaking to the field office, I was told that CI has wheelchair accessible vans for transport. CI will help plan a day of activities fun for both and assist as much as possible to make the trip enjoyable. Visiting homes would probably be tough though. With that said.... ECUADOR HERE I COME!

Wow! That's so great to hear. :)

I'm sure CI needs the vans for disabled kids and family members, too.

You probably should check the travelling with disabilities websites for info on hotels/restaurants and any issues with regional travel, so there are no unpleasant surprises while you're getting there, like hotels that think they're accessible but have tiny bathrooms or "only 3 steps."

I worked with orphans in Quito in 2002. Wonderful people in Ecuador. I also worked with babies in the nursery at the female jail. I think anyone can still visit it and volunteer, tour or bring supplies for the women. There are many kids in the jail living there.

I have 10 kids in Quito and I will visit all of them in January 2017.  One of my sponsored children will be 19yrs old in February and will be graduating from the Program.  He considers me like his second father and I have visited him twice!!  We want to exchange our personal information in order to be in contact after the Program....We love each other a lot!!!!  I have not seen the other ones because I have sponsored them lately.  I have notified Children International about my plans and is coordinating all related of my upcoming visit.  My kiddos are already waiting for me and are very excited!!!

For those who have sponsored child/children from Ecuador, do they have online stores in which you can purchase grocery items, school supplies and other gift items? I would want to send or give something to my child? Is sending a DP to Ecuador advisable? Thank you very much...
