Could someone tell me a little about how good and reliable tutors are chosen for our sponsored children in India?

Is it CI's responsibility? If a sponsor pays for one year of tutoring in advance, how is the tutor paid and who checks that they continue providing tutoring for the whole year?

Also, some of the children and their large families live in a home consisting of one room, a mud floor and plastic sheeting. In these conditions it must be difficult to find space for a calm tutoring session. Where is the tutoring arranged in such cases?

I just want to make sure that the funding for education is used in the best way possible.

In India specifically, the schools generally have lists of approved tutors or our staff uses members of the Youth Council. They are paid either bi-monthly or monthly, depending on the number of sessions per month.

With most class sizes in India eaching close to 100 children per classroom, one-on-one tutoring in your own home or the home of te tutor is a luxury!

The number of tutoring sessions each month depends on the child and the focus of the tutoring.

Oops, I almost forgot to address the first part of your question. If a sponsor provides for "tuitions" in India that will cover an entire school/calendar year, our staff keeps track of the payment of the donations and that the tutor is showing up.

In India, the tutoring is typically done on the verandah or in the main room of the house.  At other times, and in other SOA's it is done at the resource center/library at the SAC.
