Hi:)  I am planning on visiting my little guys in Columbia in July 2015. I have spoken to CI for suggestions on where to stay etc. but was wondering if anyone on here has made the trip and could provide me with any info/suggestions on any aspect of the trip (where to stay, what to do, what to bring etc.) I would like to visit both Cartegena and Barranquilla but may hold off on Barranquilla for my next trip.  ANY info would be appreciated!!  Thank you!!

How exciting that you are going to visit Colombia! There are a couple of sponsors, well 3 that I can think of off the top of my head, that have visited Colombia and posted it about their trips on our social site. Hopefully, one or more of them will reply. Also, if you search for "Colombia" you might find some of their posts.

I see this was quite a while ago now. How was your experience. I have a little girl in Colombia who I would LOVE to visit someday but I worry about the logistics of making the trip.

Hello Everyone
I am really new here. I don't have children of my own, so sponsoring a 7 year old girl who speaks Spanish is a bit scary. I would like to hear from others who have sponsored children in Colombia and if there is any interest in travelling as group at some time in the future?

Hi Thomas, I have been sponsoring children who live in Colombia for about 6 or 7 years and I have visited  three times. Each time was heartwarming experience and eye opening experience. I traveled to Cartagena, Santa Marta and Barranquilla. The CI staff will work with you to help you plan your trip. I think that they have made some recent changes for planning a visit so I would read up on that section on the site. The Colombian people are very warm hearted and inviting. They are very patient with those who do not speak the language.  Unfortunately I don't have experience with group trips. Best wishes on your sponsorship!

Hi Thomas:

I have a sponsored child in Guatemala and am wanting to plan a visit in upcoming months.  Sometime in April/May.  I think there are two centers in Guatemala, so I am not sure are sponsored children are in the same place!

Hi TapTap , thank you and really you have echoed my thoughts on where the children are located. Originally i was thinking about sponsoring another but close together...but have now changed my mind.

There are way more than two centers in Guatemala, so you definitely want to take that into account when planning a visit. Our 9 Guatemalan kids are divided between four centers, but there are even more centers that we haven't visited (plus ones we have visited, even without any kids there).

It's been nearly 15 years since I first visited my sponsored child in Cartagena, Colombia. I had been sponsoring Yeimis for several years when I met a Colombian woman in Los Angeles, the summer of 2000. She invited me to visit her in Cali, which I planned to do in early 2001.... That visit coincided with a visit to Cartagena.... Long story-short: I met my sponsored child and her family while in Cartagena with the cooperation and assistance from CI. If you're going to Cartagena, it's a 2 hour flight from Miami. Easy peasy. BTW, it's ALWAYS hot and humid there. Go. You'll be glad you did.
