DPs or SNGs??

I'm more financially stable than I was when I first became a sponsor which is great because now I can donate more to my precious Lilly (Liliana) and her family! My question is: Is it better to send a DP or SNG? I would like to have clothing, household and back to school items sent to my little girl and her family, but I'm not sure which way is best. I like the idea of a DP but I'm fearful of the package not making it to her :-(  Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks :-)

I think SNG's are a much more efficient use of money and the family has the choice of items to buy. Even if you specify the use they will still choose colors, sizes etc. or, if food then a choice of what they actually want or need. I do send a DP about once a year for a birthday when I'm not concerned about "needs". Also because of storage limits I typically only send one item.

I like SNG's better. Gives the kids a chance to go shopping and they know best what they need and like!

From a practicality standpoint, SNGs are the way to go. Not only will your family be able to choose exactly what they need, but the US dollar goes a lot farther in some of our countries AND you can send whatever you would spend on gifts AND shipping costs to stretch your money even further. If you send $100 or more, you can specify that you want the donation to be used for clothing and back-to-school items.

I personally think DPs are a lot more FUN to send ... but that's because I really enjoy shopping for my younger girls (I have a harder time filling a package for older girls) and receiving the pictures of them with the things I personally chose for them is a special kind of warm, fuzzy feeling. I tend to send DPs around Christmas time, and SNGs for birthdays, so my girls get a mix of both.

I also take into consideration the family's situation. Jie and Danise both struggle even to have enough to eat, so I would definitely lean towards SNGs for them. Joyce and Anna Marie are both in college, so they get SNGs as well, with it specified that the money is for their tuition and supplies. Anikka, on the other hand, will probably next receive a DP with a mix of toys, clothes, and hygiene items (all in pink, because boy does this little girl love pink!).

I have done both DP's and SNG's.  If my schedule allows enough time, I like to sent DP's at Christmas, birthdays or if I see something I think a specific child will like. I like seeing the special thing I bought in the arms of the child I got it for.  But, I look at the situation each child is in & if I know that DP's can make it there ok.  I remember reading about there being problems with DP's to Columbia from L1--so I sent an SNG to guarantee it will get there. I have not had any problems so far with DP's to the PI or Guatemala.  I have just sent out several DP's to Mexico, so I will see how that turns out. I also want each child to get a chance to have an SNG to pick things out for themselves.  For me, it's fun seeing what the pick out as well as their reaction to what I send.

That's what I was worried about... something happening to the package. But I'm seeing now that SNGs are definitely the way to go - especially if it's something that is very important.

 Thanks for the advice! :-)
