Jalisco Visit

My sponsored child lives in Jalisco, Guadalajara, and I would like to visit him.  However, I am very anxious about visiting Mexico, due to the scary stories I've heard of problems with kidnappings, robberies, etc.  Has anyone visited this site, and if so, could you give me some info of how your visit went?

When you do a child visit, CI will always let you know if there's an area not safe for tourists. We never avoided anything in Guadalajara and toured the city. I'm not aware of anywhere there that is particularly unsafe. Popular places to take sponsored kids are the zoo or amusement park. If you want to add a beach vacation, there's a really nice bus to Puerto Vallarta It takes about 3.5 hours.

I don't think Mexico is a particularly unsafe country for tourists at all. I don't sponsor any children in Mexico and I haven't been to Guadalajara, but I've been to Mexico 5 times since 2011 (for 80+ days combined) and visited 16 different states and never had a problem. I can't wait to go again a few months from now.

That is good to know.  I am probably going to go ahead and start shopping for my trip.  Never occurred to me to go to Puerta Vallarta.

I'm planning to meet three of my girls in Guadelajara in a few months, and this will be my first time meeting any of my kids. Maybe we can compare notes as we plan! :-)
