I was wondering if CI has any program in mind to help out with the Venezuelan refugees that have come into Colombia. Would any of these children become a part of the existing program in Colombia?

Interesting thought. I think there are a lot in Ecuador, too. I am unsure if any of them are signed up fro CI though.

Hi Shana, interesting question. I know that there are other orgs helping them in Colombia, and I don't know if orgs have agreements between them for their areas of work.. CI is of course focus on individual children sponsorship, so I don't think refugees are their expertise, but they are certainly Venezuelan children that lives in Colombia and are maybe in the program.. I know the father of "my" Wenderlis is a venezuelan..

If a family settles in Colombia, or really any country we're in, and the center in their community is enrolling, then most definitely the children could become a part of the program.

The key word here is 'settles' as CI programs are geared more to households that have some stability like a place to call home. There are millions of people that have fled to neighboring countries and many live the life of refugees.  So they are most likely not settled or established in a community long enough to get into the CI programs. There are other organizations that are geared to help refugees and have a charter to do so. It is a bad situation with no easy solution.
