Are the community centers open in Colombia? I was in Bogota over Christmas and it looked like business as usual--no masks. I heard that community centers were not open.  I hope that isn't the case.  My monthly donation is to support the center so the children can go there--not stay at home and do everything virtually. They need tutoring, health care and social time. Can someone please provide an update?

Our Care Team Director, Tina, happens to be in Guayaquil, Ecuador this week and sent me the following message about her visit today via Teams and I wanted to share:
Hey friends - I’m at the Phelan Center in Guayaquil.  Kids are on school break right now and many are here participating in Life Skills (sports or building robots), Emotional well-being program to help deal with stress and pain. Into employment (how to prepare for job) preschool age nutrition education - parents brought fruit and learning how to make fruit salad.  Tutoring for math and education for 5-7 year olds.  They have a safe place to learn, etc. it’s loud with lots of activity. The Center is full of life with meaningful programs in action.

Thanks Debbie,
When did the Cartegena center re-open for in-person services, and is it operating with the same hours, accessibility, and staff as before Covid?

Hi cfrost3. Yes, the community centers are open during the same hours with the same accessibility as before closing and with full staff and volunteers available. The center re-opened in 2021 with limited capacity due to covid restrictions but is now open to full capacity.
