Hello!
I am french and I have been sponsoring my girl Memory from Zambia since 2005,she is turning 15 yrs old this year and I would love to visit her but  I have  concerns cause I am a woman and it might not be safe to travel alone there. Does any female sponsor went there alone here? How was it?

Also I always wanted to send her gifts but Children international always told it was best not too cause it can lost in he mail,or stolen,etc..so I always donated extra but this year I would love to send her a package to celebrate her birthday and my 10yrs anniversary sponsoring her!Do you know what are the requirements? Like what can we send to our child?Weight requirements?etc...
Thanks a lot!
Ps:In 10 yrs It's my 1st time posting here!:)

I traveled to visit my boys on Zambia 3 months ago. I did travel with my fiance but I would go again alone as a single female in my 20s, especially if I found flights that connected through countries I felt comfortable with. We went from the US to Germany to South Africa and finally to Zambia. We took the same route home. I was much more comfortable with that route than many others that were available. I was advised by friends local to Lusaka to avoid connecting in Ethiopia, so you may want to avoid that. I found the South African and Zambian airports to be very noticeably different than airports I'm used to in the US

(Post got cut off by my phone). Anyways, much different bit after a little but of adjustment time to take in my surroundings I got used to it. I did feel safe. (Both airports seemed nicer and larger on the flight home, not sure if the incoming flight areas are just smaller or what). When are you planning to make your visit? I'll really need to take a look at my funds and time off work but I'm open to revisiting if you're looking for a travel partner. Zambia was absolutely amazing and I felt safe. The people were all so nice. I've decided I only want to stay in the Protea Hotel Lusaka Tower if I ever do return - best location and nicest accommodation by far

So I'm just posting! But my mom and I went to visit our three girls in 2014. It is TOTALLY safe to travel as a woman and alone. For your child visit CI is with you at all times. We were very well received at each community, even Chibolya which has a high crime rate. People in the community know CI is a good organization and when they see you in the CI can they wave. I never once was concerned for my safety. I stayed at the taj pomadzi hotel. It is very secure and the staff are incredible.
I have sent many packages to all of the kids I've sponsored there and have never had an issue. The price to ship can be crazy but I still think worth it because it is from YOU! If you have other questions I'd love to help! :) I'm near Seattle, USA.
