HI,

I have heard that some kids may leave the CI program. Do you know the reason? How ofter does it happen?

Thanks!

It can happen because youth graduate from our program at age 19, the family can move out of the service area, the family/youth can decide to no longer participate, the family's circumstances can improve...as you can see, there are lots of different reasons.

When a child leaves the program for any reason we will always write their sponsor to let them know of the situation.

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for your reply. If my sponsored child leaves the program because the family situation has improved I will be very happy to hear about it :-)

Is there a way to keep in touch with them once they graduate the program?

You were suppose to get notice once they turn 19. You get a final letter. In the letter you write your email or facebook or address or whatever you choose and give to him or her so they know how to keep in contact.

Children in our international programs usually graduate the program within a few months after their 19th birthday. Upon receiving the information regarding their graduation sponsors can provide their contact information in order to stay in contact with children outside the program. I hope this helps!

Hi, I was perusing the questions which I have not done before... My sponsored girl in Guatemala was just pulled from the program by the family (the mother) this past month.  I was very sad to hear the news from CI.  I've sponsored her since she was 7 and was turning 14 this month!  The reason I was told the family gave was that there was no time to bring her in anymore.  I suspect maybe she was considered old enough to work or help the household in some other way--likely not an uncommon situation in those countries where there is so much poverty... I was very upset to hear this, because right at a crucial point in her life, things will change and likely not for the better.  :-(

This was really helpful. CI sent me a letter about my kid leaving the program but with no other information. It's good that her conditions have improved.
