CI in rural Colombia Cancel Se requiere un título

I ​thought that CI Colombia worked only in cities, but apparently that's not the case, since the father of my Colombian child is a farmer. What is the closest city to these rural areas? How far are they from the nearest CI agency? I'd also like to hear about the experiences of other sponsors who have or have had a rural child in Colombia. Thanks!

The organization works with children who live in areas of Barranquilla, Cartagena, Santa Marta and the towns of Soledad and Malambo. Also, in the Department of Atlántico, Santa Rosa, and in the Department of Bolivar; these are located on the north coast of Colombia. Remember, even if a child's community center is in an urban area, the families can live up to 30 minutes away, so they could be in a more rural neighborhood. 

debbies: I was just wondering if some of sponsored children in Zambia could live in a  more rural neighborhood or do they all live in the compounds?

Hi barbmc - the families in Zambia live in compounds but those could be a far distance from community centers/agency. 

Thanks for the info. What I was really curious about is if any families in Zambia  have the option of  a small garden. not to earn income but to supplement their own food supply. I didn't think it was possible in the compounds, but maybe if some families lived outside of them they could grow some veggies, ect. It's hard for me to wrap my head around how a large family can buy enough food to survive in Zambia on an income of $40. a month. I realize that in many cases other family members may be contributing income when they can. But  the cost of food in Zambia is significantly higher than in many of the other countries CI sponsors in.

Hi barbmc - Our field staff in Zambia estimate that only a very small percentage (less than 4%) of sponsored families have gardens. The majority of families get their food from local markets or grocery stores.
