Hello everyone,

I have seen people post saying instead of sending DP's they order through online companies, to ship gifts to their sponsored children. I'm wondering what those reliable sites are? I have sponsored children in:

Jalisco, Mexico

Barranquilla, Columbia

Quito, Equador

Thanks!

I don't know of any in those countries, although I imagine Mexico has some. India and the Philippines seem to be the countries with several options that have worked for people. I believe there is a Zambian site also where you can phone an order in.

I'm thinking about trying an online purchase like through eBay and having it mailed directly to the CI center in zambia for my boys, to the address I was given to send DPs. I'm thinking a small item like a t-shirt. Apart from the possible issues of the package being lost or stolen, if it makes it there, Any ideas on how I could make it known that it is for my sponsored kids? I wouldn't think there's a way to have the seller note my child ID in the package,  although I suppose I could ask

Hi, did you try this and if so, did it arrive there safely?

FYI I visited an expat forum for Ecuador and found a  link to a retail drug store (like our CVS), It is a large retail chain and they sell, dishes, toiletries , toys etc.  they ship. The website is in Spanish

I'm excited to hear about the store in Ecuador! I should make a list ... I know I've seen someone post about Zambia, and I found one in the Philippines the other day (www.PhilGrocer.com) that will deliver anywhere in the Philippines. I haven't ordered anything from them yet, though, so I can't vouch for their reliability.

Hi Saddare,

Here is a link to the Phillipines Online Store. It is actually for National Bookstore which is a store. I visited one when I was in Manila.

I know several Lifters had used it to send gifts to their gifts with Success.

 http://www.nationalbookstore.com.ph/

I was told while in Ph that this is where many kids go to get their school cupplies.

I have heard that there is an option called AmazonWorld in which Amazon.com will ship to other countries.  I don't know the details (i.e. which countries, cost, etc.)

Hey, I searched for "Amazon World", and all I got was info for a zoo in the United Kingdom! :-)

I've been checking out this drugstore site - it looks very promising! The problem, I think, is that it will take a lot of coordination with CI to create a "tutorial" to help sponsors utilize the website correctly. For example, I was able to successfully register for an account with Fybeca (I think), but I am unable to complete the next step, which is entering the shipping address for the office in Guayaquil. The components of the address I use with USPS don't not fit into the fields Fybeca provides. Of course, I'm trying to muddle through all this in Spanish! Saddare? I know you have bilingualability (I just invented this word), so have you checked out the Fybeca site registration yet? Maybe you can help the rest of us figure out how this can be done. At some point, we will need to register our billing addresses to coordinate with our credit cards, and I don't know if the web form will allow a U.S. style address to be entered. I'm trying to work to a point where I can see if it's possible to include a "gift message" (this is available for many online stores) where we can write in our children's full names and ID numbers. That's one problem with ordering through a company - how to indicate the correct child recipient. Please help if you can! I would love to send soccer balls and snacks to my kids in Ecuador.

Looks like it's called AmazonGlobal, and they will ship to 65 countries (the CI countries are Chile, Colombia, India, Mexico, and The Philippines), and they take care of the customs process for you (apparently adding on fees where appropriate). You can even get FREE shipping to India and Mexico!

"About FREE AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping

With FREE AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping, you receive free shipping to India, New Zealand, Mexico and Singapore if your order includes at least $125 of qualifying merchandise, excluding the Import Fees Deposit, gift-wrap charges, duties, and taxes. Most products shipped using the AmazonGlobal Program that are sold by Amazon.com are eligible for AmazonGlobal Saver. Items 20 lb. or more, certain oversize items, e-documents, software downloads, music downloads and gift cards don't qualify.
Canceling items, combining orders, or changing your shipping address, speed or preference might affect your order's AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping eligibility.

If your order doesn't qualify for AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping:The order may contain ineligible items.A special product, order, or handling fee may still apply. An eligible item that was canceled brought the total below $125"

Sadly, AmazonGlobal only ships to the countries where I DON'T currently sponsor - except for Mexico, which I've (almost) always been able to ship to with relative ease.

Quadlinguability, actually, though Spanish is the only useful one in this context. :-D I will try to muddle through the process and see if I can get it. Stand by...

I've spent, like, an hour trying to place a "dummy" order through Amazon Global that will qualify for FREE SHIPPING. I've given up. You must spend $125, but even if you check a box so that you only see products that are "Global Eligible", you don't know if your chosen products are eligible for MEXICO until the next-to-final step of the check-out process ... then it's back to the beginning.

I finally found $130 worth of products that could be shipped to Mexico, but I was STILL being charged for shipping. The cost Amazon quoted just to ship was in excess of $150 + a $50 "deposit" toward potential import fees. Yikes! I'd rather mail a box from home for $60.

There was no message to explain why my order didn't qualify for free shipping. I'd call them, except I can't afford to actually place an order right now.

The one good thing is that Amazon provided a space where I could enter a "gift message" to give CI the names/numbers of my sponsor kids.

I have been carousing the diff sites to order stuff online for the Philippines. I read the FAQs section for www.philgrocer.com and they state there is an area during checkout where you can add a note to the recipient.
I am thinking of trying a few items and see how it goes. The only thing holding me back right now is needing the phone number for the field office. I emailed CI, but it may take 3 days or so to get back with me. I also dont know if that if information that CI will give out. I am sure they dont want a bunch of sponsors calling the field offices. Time will tell.

I remember the phone number requirement--I *thought* it said shipper or recipient, so I entered my own. We'll see how that works out!

Well, drat! I tried working my way through it (even taking screenshots as I went, to build a tutorial!) ... but I was tripped up by entering the billing address. But I noticed they had a "chat online" help feature, so I explained the problem. It only took about two minutes to get back to me ... but the news was sad. "Buenas tardes, le comento que lamentablemente no es posible este tipo de facturación ya que debe existir alguien que nos ayude con la firma del voucher" -- Sadly this type of billing is not possible because someone has to help us with the signing of the receipt" or, in other words, you can only order from their site if you are there personally to receive the delivery.

So, it's back to the drawing board for ordering online in Ecuador.

*SIGH*

Well, thanks so much for trying! I wish Amazon did Ecuador, but I haven't had much luck with them yet, anyway.

Would someone at the post office sign to just receive your package and place it in the P.O. box where DPs are sent?

I -think- the signature they require is for the credit card receipt, as opposed to the delivery receipt. That was the impression I got, anyway. I may have lost something in translation, though.

I can help with the spanish website, I'm from Mexico :)

For those interested in sending things like clothes, toys, etc to their children in Latam (specially Mexico) you can try Mercadolibre.com, its like Ebay and they have several options for delivery, depending on the item it could be from $60 Mexican Pesos to $200 but you get a package number so you can track it :)
