Writing to Child Cancel Se requiere un título

I'm brand new to CI and have a question about writing. I have had the children added to my account but have not as yet received anything in the mail from CI and don't expect anything for a few days. Is it acceptable/advisable to write to them using the email option shown in my account for each child? Better to wait until I receive the info package? Just a bit over-enthused I guess but I'm also wondering if the children know they have a sponsor yet and if it's appropriate to write yet. Thanks. James

When I first started sponsoring, I decided to write a letter via the children.org My Account option. What I got back was TWO letters. One was her responding to just being sponsored, and the other was responding to the email I sent her :)

I've posted this before and I'll say it again. Just write your child. Makr it a habit even if it's just once a year. I have seen in person the kids when they get a letter. It makes them very happy and proud. Not all kids get a letter ever from their sponsor. I've had them ask me why it was that they never got one. I think the letters not only help build our connection to the child and their family, they also help them feel more secure.

Yes, thanks to you all for your kind responses and your encouragement. Being new, I was not sure of the protocol and how things worked. Chicagomike, that's sad to hear that some kids never do get letters and even more sad to hear how they wonder about the reasons for it. Almost as if they might think they were to blame in some way. The saving grace is that they do have sponsors albeit without the letters for whatever reason. James

The kids love getting letters. Even if they do not reply for some reason, rest assured anything they get from a sponsor is cherished. I visited my former sponsored kids several times (one has since graduated and one left the program) and they always proudly showed me how carefully they kept the letters, pictures and other paper items I had sent over the years. I try not to write more than a few times per year because my letters need to be translated and I don't want to overburden the system. Photos are especially cherished.
