In a nut shell, our field agencies and Programs Team spentmost of 2015 reviewing the best ways to help our kids stay healthy and breakout of poverty. We looked extra hard at the material gifts for Easter andSpecial Hug. That’s because we’ve learned that the kids and families really appreciated those gifts, and they were definitely helpful. But what we heard would be evenmore helpful would be to expand the programs for kids that give them thelife skills they’re going to need for true success in their future.
So, we decided to make a change to focus on those programs instead of buying gifts. To be fair, the donations received for theEaster and Special Hug Day funds were always less than those received for thebirthday and Christmas Funds (this does not include EG’s given), so it affectedfewer sponsors than you would imagine.
All sponsors who randomly sent in donations for Easter orSpecial Hug where notified of the change, and were asked if they we could usethe donation for programs, or if they preferred a refund.
