Does anybody know if in San Pedro de Sula there are shelters open for Children International children families?

Shelters have been established by the local authorities. Also, our staff is contacting families about whether or not they had to leave their home. 

Thank you, the pictures in the news look terrible, even the airport was closed.

I am so worried about my little girl there and her family. When they write, are they able to give honest details? Im worried they aren't allowed to share their experiences or that she is in danger. Thank you to her helpers and mentors. Im new and don't know if i should ask her about if she is able to still be in classes or if she is comfortable or scared. I genuinely care so much but i don't want to upset her or her family. I really could use advice about how to be a good sponsor during these emergency situations.

Katherine_8a924 - children are able to write about their experience in letters if they choose to do so. I can share that your sponsored child lives in Copan and only a small number of sponsored families there were affected. The majority of sponsored families affected are in San Pedro Sula. 

Has there been any updates about San Pedro de Sula? Any idea when CI is going to reopen so I can send a package.

Right now, the agency in  Honduras is  working on two phases: Phase 1: Cleanup – includes Trash and Debri cleanup, providing potable water, donating cleaning supplies to families, promoting handwashing to reduce spread of illness and fumigation of mosquitos (standing water leads to increase in mosquito population and results in increases of mosquito born illnesses such as dengue and malaria- already a significant issue in Honduras).
Phase 2: Two food/cash deliveries to affectedfamilies

Community centers in Honduras will not open in 2020. It has not been determined when they might be able to open in 2021. The hurricane did cause damage to several centers, which will further delay any reopening. 

Thank you for update.  In my city there have been several drives to send food and cloth but  I hope somehow the children families find out about where this distribution centers are located..

I sponsor two children from Honduras. I recently received an update on an EG which stated that the family was impacted by the storms and opted to use the EG as cash and that they were unable to provide a letter or photo due to the circumstances (which the families were able to do with other EGs prior to the storms). 

I don't mind at all about the letter or photos but I did become very worried as to how they were impacted and if they are okay. These families have been through so much already. It makes me so sad but I am glad to hear that there are some resources available to help.

I understand how frustrating it can be not to know if the sponsor child is ok during this challenging times. It takes a couple of month for a package to reach them during normal times and with CI being closed we can not even say. I'll send the package and it will get there in a couple of months because we are not sure if they are going to be open by February or not.
