Confusing letter...

Hi, I received my first electronic letter from one of the children I sponsor in Zambia (Faiza). It was a lovely letter, but in it the mother thanked me for "all the gifts I always send" Faiza and the family. I did send an EG for Faiza's birthday, which is not for a few weeks, but I doubt the family has received this yet. Is there a reason why the mother thinks I have been sending them gifts? Perhaps a sponsor had to drop out and they think that I am the old sponsor, even though I am actually new?

I would just call the center and find out what’s up. Faiza is so young, but perhaps she had a sponsor before you, or it could just be a quirk of the language translation. Either way, I’m sure a staff member can help clarify for you!

My understanding is children aren't told when a sponsor drops them, only when they get new sponsor. So maybe there is confusion about whether you have always sponsored them or not. Maybe the previous sponsors never sent letters so they assume it's the same sponsor who just now sent a letter? The 19 year I started sponsoring just 6 months ago thanked me for supporting 'all these years'.

In looking at Faiza's info, I see that she did have another sponsor from March 2020 to January 2021. This means that for the past year she's been receiving food baskets, hygiene/toiletry items, cleaning supplies, water, masks, etc. along with health care through our Emergency Community Fund to help the families make it thru the pandemic, as well as items for her birthday and Christmas. In reading her mom's letter to you, I feel certain that these are the "gifts" she is "always" receiving from you.  How wonderful that she now has a sponsor to write to her!
