First, Just want to say how much I appreciate everyone at CI going above to help sponsors that have individual request for the sponsored children.

I have a question.

My sponsored kid choose to change his degree to a 5 years program that the hope scholarship does not cove. Does the hope scholarship cover only certain degrees forever?  Or does it change? He seems to be in a 5 year program and I would want to encourage him to try and get the scholarship again if it did cover his degree.

I thought the Hope Scholarship was based on grades only and they can go to the school of their choice,

@billynyc10001, there is an in-depth process to applying for a HOPE Scholarship. More information can be found here: https://www.children.org/MySocialCenter/messageboard/!content/updates/hope-scholarship-info

@Victoria_361fb, please see the private message we sent you regarding Carlos’ specific situation.

This person had changed their plans from a 3 semester program to a 5 year program. They suddenly had a very different plan, which cost a lot more money than what they had originally  applied for.

I got your message. Thanks again for everything.

I was thinking about next year, the report said that, "since the degree he wanted to study was not available with the scholarship program, he decided to attend a private college in the city." I wanted to encourage them to apply again next year. But if that scholarship is ever going to be an option for that degree then I would not.

Good luck on this. One learns something new all the time.

I believe the Hope scholarship is only good for the following school year. The youth would have to reapply to get another scholarship. Also not all scholarship are full scholarships. Some only cover part of the costs.
