Children International does not have a religious affiliation. United by a common vision — bringing people together to end poverty for good — our supporters, volunteers, staff, children and their families span many beliefs and backgrounds.
It helps to know a little about our history. Back in 1936, we were founded to provide food baskets to women and children in Bethlehem and Jerusalem. In the 1940s and 1950s, the program grew to include an orphanage and medical clinic, then an orthopedic hospital.
In the 1970s, we experienced incredible growth and expansion, along with a gradual shift to a sponsorship model that helped children in Latin America and Asia.
Today, we work in 10 countries, and as a secular organization, we respect and honor the religions, cultures and languages of all our children and families. Sponsored children and our staff work together to achieve our goal of ending poverty for good through programs that focus on health, education, empowerment and employment.
