Delhi-Bawana Community Center: India

Bawana is a resettlement colony located northwest of the national capital of Delhi and houses more than 9,000 families in five main blocks. Most of the original inhabitants of the colony are families whose slums were forcibly evicted by the government from the central area of the city over 10 years ago. The families were given small plots of land as compensation, and this came to be called the Bawana Slum Colony.

Currently, we serve the educational and health needs of 200 children between the ages of 3 and 7 through our pre-school and primary remedial education program, which provides nutritious meals and education classes five days a week.

We are planning on building a new community center in Bawana, which will allow us to provide basic services that sponsored families would otherwise have no access to, including health, educational and nutritional support.

The children also need a place where they can feel safe. A community center in Bawana will help provide security and protection from their dangerous environment. Regular sponsorship benefits will give them the jump-start they need to grow up healthy and educated.

Community Centers: Building Hope for the Future
Thank you to those donating to our community center campaign! Each center that we build not only provides crucial care for thousands of needy children, but stands as a symbol of our long-term commitment to the community itself.

While gifts of any amount are welcomed, contributors who provide a gift of at least $1,000 toward construction of a community center will receive:

  • Regular updates on the progress of the center
  • A report on the inauguration of services in the new location
  • An open invitation to attend the center’s inauguration or visit anytime
  • Your name, or the name of a loved one, inscribed on a wall in the center for all children and families to see.

Please call our Development Department at 1-800-888-4089 now to donate to our community center campaign.
