Through the Doshi Dream Center in Jorasanko, we are working to break the cycle of generational poverty through a unique approach that nurtures children and invests in their lives until they are able to stand on their own feet.
The three-story building in Jorasanko, the Doshi Dream Center, is a major hub of activity. The center offers medical and dental care, as well as a nutritional feeding program. Our young people have access to educational support through a library and computer center, and an active youth empowerment program and employment support.
Kolkata, one of India’s preeminent economic cities thanks to its proximity to the Hooghly River, is a sprawling metropolis covering 79 square miles. About a third of Kolkata’s population lives in slums. More than 40% of these people have lived in the impoverished communities for two generations or longer. Half of them immigrated to the city from rural parts of West Bengal and adjoining states during the 20th century and settled around industrial areas and vacant sites.
Children International’s community centers provide safe, uplifting and caring environments from which youth can launch successful futures. We are grateful for our donors’ big hearts for making our work possible.

Make a lifelong impact on children’s futures by naming one of the rooms still available. The very spaces that are changing the lives of kids will honor you or someone you love. We will highlight your investment with a plaque in the available room of your choice, in addition to adding the room name to our website.
For additional information about the recognition associated with naming opportunities, please contact Global Philanthropy at 800‑888‑4089 or philanthropy@children.org.
