KANSAS CITY, Mo. (June 4, 2024) – Children International, a global nonprofit that seeks to break the cycle of generational poverty, has joined the Keeping Children Safe (KCS) Network, an independent consortium that helps organizations protect children from abuse.
By joining the KCS network, Children International solidifies its longstanding commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of the nearly 200,000 sponsored children that it serves every year, said Lemuel Bonete, Global Lead in Child Safeguarding for Children International.
“Being part of the KCS Network is a pivotal step toward realizing Children International’s vision of ending poverty for good and creating a world where every child, family and community can thrive,” said Bonete, Senior Technical Officer in Central Luzon, Philippines. “Looking ahead, Children International envisions seamlessly integrating child safeguarding efforts into its systems and strategies within the next year.”
Membership in KCS will benefit Children International through a discounted full review of its child safeguarding policy, Bonete said. Additionally, Children International will receive ongoing coaching, mentoring and technical advice from the KCS Network, and will have access to resources, such as webinars, conferences and networking forums, to enhance its safeguarding practices.
This past March, “safeguarding champions” representing Children International communities around the world took part in a full week of intensive, online training classes in collaboration with KCS. Through this practical training, participants learned how to navigate the complexities of child protection, and how to adopt best practices to foster a culture where children’s rights are upheld and respected.
