Currently participating in our capstone program for young adults, Into Employment®,
Lara shares her story of resilience, growth and hope.
Growing up in a neglected community outside Quezon City, Philippines, Lara tells us her parents sacrificed much for her and her two younger siblings. Often forced to make tough choices about where to spend the family’s meager income, the assistance the household began receiving when Lara became sponsored at the age of 7 began transforming their lives.
At that young age, Lara admits she was unaware of all the resources that would become available to her. But over the years, she became actively engaged in numerous programs and activities that empowered her.
Soon entering her 14th and final year of sponsorship, Lara (pictured here in one of her first child photos) has persevered through tough times. Looking back, she sees how opportunities at various life stages, each building upon the one before, led to her success. Now in her third year toward earning a Bachelor of Secondary Education in Mathematics, Lara says that little girl would find it hard to believe she’d be where she is today.

I'm a Proud Sponsor of 7 Sponsor Children. I have 2 children that are 18 years old. I'm excited to one day know which job they worked so hard to achieve. They both are attending college to achieve their goals. Soon they will graduate from Children International, and I'm very proud of them. (Job well Done Lara! Keep up the good work!) I'm looking forward to encouraging my younger Sponsor Children to attend more activities, and/or programs that Children International has to offer them. Thank you Children International for all you do for All children.
